While families, especially those with small children, are trying to cope with orders to remain at home while trying to get exercise and find activities to do, a few more options are off the table.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar, under guidance from New York State, has signed an emergency order closing all public playgrounds, athletic courts and sporting fields.

People can still get out and take walks or runs but concerns over the spread of the coronavirus through sporting and other equipment and social distancing of six feet is limiting what people can do.

People are again reminded to stay home except for necessary trips to get groceries, go to the pharmacy or doctor appointments, avoid contact with others and, if you feel sick and do not need immediate attention, call your health care provider before heading to a walk-in or emergency room.
