Edward Stack Stepping Down as Dick’s Sporting Goods CEO

Binghamton-native Edward Stack has announced he'll soon be leaving his position as chief executive officer of Dick's Sporting Goods.

Stack will become the company's executive chairman on February 1. Under a transition plan, he will continue as "chief merchant" for the major sports equipment retailer now based in the Pittsburgh area.

Dick's Sporting Goods was founded in Binghamton in 1948 by Stack's father, Richard Stack.

Edward Stack has been the chairman and CEO of the company since he and his siblings bought two Broome County stores from their father in 1984.

Dick's Sporting Goods has grown to more than 850 stores with annual revenue of nearly $9 billion.

Lauren Hobart, the company's current president, who retain that title and become CEO as part of the planned transition.
