National Drug Take Back Day is coming soon. This event normally happens twice per year - in April and again in October throughout the country.

This year, 2026, will be the 30th year that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has hosted the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The next event will be held at nearly 4,200 locations nationwide. on Saturday, April 25th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Dangers Of Unused, Discarded Drugs

According to the U.S Drug Enforcement Administration, many unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands, and that can lead to a dangerous or even tragic situation.

If you have unused, unneeded prescription drugs in your home, take advantage of Drug Take Back Day so that they can be safely disposed of.

Broome County Drug Take Back Day Locations

The Broome County Sheriff's Department has announced several locations for Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25th, no questions asked, at:

  • Broome County Sheriff’s Office at 155 Lt. VanWinkle Drive in Binghamton
  • Johnson City Elks Lodge at 4212 Watson Boulevard in Johnson City
  • UHS Vestal at 4417 Vestal Parkway East in Vestal
  • West Endicott Fire Department at 113 North Page Avenue in Endicott
  • West Windsor Fire Department at 9 Karla Drive in Windsor
  • Whitney Point Fire Department at 2665 Main Street in Whitney Point
The Broome County Sheriff's Office notes that County residents should keep the medications in their original containers with the label intact. You are allowed to blacken out your name if you wish to do so.
While all medications, ointments, and sprays will be accepted, sharps are not accepted as part of the DEA Take Back Day. For a list of locations to safely dispose of sharps, visit the New York Health Department website.
