Diesel Price Jumps 90 Cents in Five Days in Johnson City
Drivers have been bracing for ongoing increases in the prices they pay for fuel but people filling up with diesel at one Johnson City retailer have seen a big price spike.
The posted price for diesel at the Mirabito convenience store early Tuesday morning was $5.199 a gallon. That compares to $4.299 five days earlier.
While diesel rose 90 cents a gallon at that site, regular gasoline prices increased by 50 cents a gallon.
The store is one of Mirabito's lower-volume retail locations. It is near Wilson Medical Center and the Binghamton University Health Sciences Campus.
According to the AAA gas price report, the average price of diesel in the Binghamton market has increased by 82 cents over the past week. The average price of regular gas locally has gone up by about 54 cents a gallon over the last seven days.
The price of gas and diesel is expected to continue rising in the near future as more sanctions are placed on Russia as the result of its invasion of Ukraine.
