Dick’s Sporting Goods Cuts Ribbon on Distribution Center
Dick's Sporting Goods held a major celebration today (Thursday) to cut the ribbon and officially open their massive $80 million distribution center at 1314 Conklin Road in Conklin. The facility is already up and operating and is currently serving 93 stores in the northeast. They plan to expand the service to supply 160 store locations. Over 200 employees are already on the job with expectations for 450 or more employees working there within the next several years.
The distribution center is the fifth such facility in operation for Dick's Sporting Goods. The complex is located on 123 acres. Two separate shifts are on the job with 170 distribution bays available with the center.
Dick's originated in Binghamton in 1948 and the original site remains in operation along with a much larger store in the Town Square Mall in Vestal. The company moved its headquarters to Coraopolis, Pa (suburban Pittsburgh) in 1994 to be near a major airport. Binghamton resident Dick Stack founded the company and his son and current CEO Ed Stack has overseen the company's massive growth. Ed Stack says his company recognized the need for a consolidated and larger distribution center in the northeast and they were determined to build it in or near Binghamton because of their family's roots to the area.
