Developers Buy Binghamton Site Once Eyed for Casino Project

Property once considered for a potential Binghamton casino has been acquired by developers.

The Broome County Industrial Development Agency has sold the North Side site to an entity controlled by Mark Lane and Mark Hotchkiss.

The parcels at 79 Frederick Street and 61 Montgomery Street previously were used by the New York State Department of Transportation.

Lane-Hotchkiss Associates LLC bought the property for $125,000. Lane and Hotchkiss did not respond to calls seeking comment on their plans for the site.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar Thursday said he has "had some discussions" with the developers about possible projects for the site.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Garnar declined to discuss what they might do with the property, which has been unused for decades.

The county executive said the parcels are located next to the site where an abandoned foundry building was torn down last year. That property was acquired by LCP Group of Vestal in exchange for the demolition work.

LCP Group owner Lawrence Pierce said he's tried to put together a potential development plan with Lane and Hotchkiss in the past. He said he didn't know what type of project might be pursued for the properties.

Four years ago, the old DOT site was in the news when a developer considered making a bid to open a casino on the property. After a short time, he gave up on the idea.
