The Binghamton area will have to keep waiting for its first Chick-fil-A restaurant but one local official who is a big fan of the chain isn't giving up.

Vestal town supervisor John Schaffer says he's hoping an announcement about a Chick-fil-A site will come in the next several months.

The company has opened restaurants in Cicero, Greece, Plattsburgh and Cheektowaga over the past year.

Schaffer remains optimistic that Chick-fil-A will settle on a suitable location in Vestal. A site off the Vestal Parkway at Jensen Road had been considered at one time but that plan didn't move forward.

Although multiple sites in Vestal are being explored, Schaffer believes the Town Square Mall would be viable. He noted there's available space in the area where the Uno Pizzeria and Grill restaurant closed last April.

While an announcement about a Chick-fil-A site may not be imminent, Schaffer indicated he remains confident Vestal will be the chain's choice for its first Southern Tier location.

Schaffer last year suggested that Broome County residents who want a Chick-fil-A restaurant in the area contact the Atlanta-based company.
