Demolition of Fire-Damaged Apalachin Recycling Plant Begins
One month after a fast-moving blaze tore through a Tioga County recycling facility, what's left of the complex is being torn down.
Crews working for LCP Group of Vestal Tuesday started demolishing the Taylor Garbage Service complex on Route 434 in Apalachin.
The project began as large trucks were being filled to haul away tons of water-soaked recyclable material that remained at the site of the fire that broke out on January 3.
Although the blaze continued to burn for days, no serious injuries were reported.
Taylor Garbage Service officials have said the company intends to construct a new recycling facility at the town of Owego site.
Chief operating officer Jared Taylor said he expects construction could get underway in about two months.
