Delaware Sheriff’s Office Warns of Publisher’s Clearing House Scam
Residents are being warned not to fall for a scam where someone claiming to be from Publisher’s Clearing House persistently calls trying to convince the victim they are a big winner but they have to send money through Western Union, gift cards or other means in order to get the prize.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Officials say they’ve gotten recent complaints, many from older residents.
If you’ve ever seen any of their television spots where the Prize Patrol shows up unannounced at someone’s door, you know Publisher’s Clearing House never calls actual winners.
Sheriff’s officials say you should never give a caller any personal information or financial or banking account information.
If you receive a suspect call from someone claiming you won a prize, especially in a contest you didn’t enter, hang up the phone and do not talk to them.
