A Stamford man is in custody after being tracked for mile through woods by the Delaware County Sheriff K9 Ozzie, Sheriff’s Deputies, Probation Officers and a New York State Environmental Conservation Officer.

Delaware County Sheriff’s officials say 25 year old Jesse Papas, who was wanted for a probation violation, climbed out of a window at his home and ran, barefoot, through the woods Friday.  Ozzie and the officers found Papas near Kemper Mount Road in Gilboa in Schoharie County.

Officials say Ozzie had a challenge tracking Papas through snow since he is very thin and left few tracks.

Authorities say Papas likely would have suffered hypothermia or frostbite if he had not been found by the police dog.

Investigators say Papas had originally been convicted of criminal possession of stolen property. He is now also charged with resisting arrest.

Papas was sent to the Delaware County Jail without bail.
