Delaware Deputy Threatened, Sheriff Issues Warning About Justice Reforms
A Delaware County man is facing several charges after Sheriff’s Deputies say a person they were interviewing threatened to physically harm an officer.
Authorities say they arrested 38-year-old Eric Swart of Delhi at 9:05 p.m. November 19 following a report of a dispute in the Village.
Deputies say Swart is charged with obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.
He was sent to the Delaware County Jail on $1,500 bail.
Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond took the opportunity in the news release announcing the arrest to voice his opposition to the justice reform measures due to take effect next year. The Sheriff says: “Effective January 1, 2020, egregious charges of this nature will result in an appearance ticket and an immediate release.” He called the prospect of releasing a suspect accused of threatening a police officer and resisting arrest “shocking and appalling.”
