COVID Spike Could Impact NYS Fair/ Broome Weekly Increase in Triple-Digits
COVID cases continue an upward jump in New York State, including in the Southern Tier and Central New York as officials continue to appeal to stragglers to get vaccinated to stop the spread.
The increase in cases could even impact the Great New York State Fair that is due to swing open its gates in just a couple weeks after being cancelled last year due to the pandemic.
Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon August 9 said the county was talking to New York State about protocols for the fair with the Delta variant driving a spike in cases in the region. Onondaga County is among the areas on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention map showing a significant spread of the virus.
Over the past week, Broome County, which was also listed as an area of significant spread, recorded an increase of 202 cases when the week before the increase that had officials concerned was 70 new cases.
Chenango County is hosting a walk-in vaccination opportunity today at General Clinton Park in Bainbridge. The one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be available from 5 to 7 p.m. First doses of the Moderna shot will be available at the Broome County Health Department for the next three Thursdays.
