Construction Starts on New Endicott Street Department Garage
Workers have started building a new garage facility for use by the street department in the village of Endicott.
The structure is being constructed just east of the department's main garage on Jennings Street.
Rob Kaczynski, the village street and parks supervisor, said the project has been in the works for a couple of years.
Kaczynski said the new structure will include a wash bay that will make it possible to more completely clean department vehicles. The ability to remove more salt and dirt from the truck fleet should help extend the useful life of the vehicles.
Construction materials for the garage project were delivered to the job site last Friday. Workers started erecting the structure on Monday morning - as scheduled - despite the snow that fell over the weekend.
Kaczynski said the building will be constructed in stages. The basic frame for the structure should be completed in about two weeks. He said much of the work will be done in-house with village workers, who will install water and electric lines in the building.
Kaczynski said work on the garage project could be completed by late summer.
