Senator Fred Akshar, along with County Executive Jason Garner, and Binghamton Mayor Richard David, have created the Government Plaza Thanksgiving Food Challenge.

According to a press release from Senator Akshar’s Office, the event challenges city and government employees at all levels, along with community members, to donate non-perishable food items to help local families who are in need.

The Government Plaza Thanksgiving Food Challenge begins Monday November 16th and runs through Friday November 20th collection barrels will be available for donation between 8am to 5pm in the lobbies of the State Office Building, Broome County Office Building, and Binghamton City Hall.

When the week is over, the items for each of these buildings will be tallied, to see which building collected the most food.

Last year employees and community members donated over 2,000 pounds of food to local families with the Broome County Office Building donating the largest donation.

If you can’t shop for food items, you can make a monetary donation on line.
