The show is far from over for the Cider Miller Playhouse in Endicott.

The board which oversees the community theater is developing a strategy to deal with a new plot twist. They'll have to find a new venue after the current lease at the Cider Mill expires in eleven months.

Playhouse executive artistic director Gail Belokur said the board of directors is "working very hard" to prepare for a move to another location. The Cider Mill recently advised the theater that its lease would not be renewed.

Belokur said supporters of the Cider Mill Playhouse reacted with "a lot of shock" and many supportive messages when the lease decision became known. She said the response of the community has been "very encouraging."

Speaking in an interview for WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Belokur said the board has decided to "build for the future" by identifying performance spaces for next season.

Belokur said a capital campaign will be launched soon with a goal of securing a permanent home for the theater. She said there is a desire to find a new venue in Endicott.

The capital campaign will seek support from individuals and organizations. Belokur said the drive's goal is expected to be set at between $250,000 and $500,000. She said the campaign will broken down into phases with benchmark goals.

Belokur anticipated the campaign would aim to initially raise $100,000 by the end of the year. She said that would allow the organization to start licensing shows for next year and "booking venues with confidence."

Another goal would be established for next March to allow the Cider Mill Playhouse to sell new ticket subscriptions.

Executive artistic director Gail Belokur will discuss the future of the Cider Mill Playhouse on the Binghamton Now program at 10:45 Thursday morning on News Radio 1290 WNBF and wnbf.com.
