A proposal to buy five buses has been narrowly rejected by voters in the Chenango Valley Central School District.

According to the district, Tuesday's proposition was defeated by a margin of 134 to 125.

The plan called for spending $440,000 to purchase three 66-passenger buses and two 35-passenger vehicles.

School district officials say a bus proposition may be considered as part of next May's annual budget vote.
