Chenango Forks Man Announces Bid for State Assembly
A Broome County man has declared his candidacy for the New York State Assembly seat now held by Republican Clifford Crouch.
Victor Furman of Chenango Forks has been preparing to run as a Republican candidate in the 122nd District for several months.
Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program Tuesday, Furman said he's been "very involved in politics" for years.
Furman has been a vocal supporter of high-volume hydraulic fracturing in New York state. He worked for IBM Corporation for nearly 25 years.
The 64-year-old Furman said many people in the Assembly district are familiar with him because of his involvement in the debate on energy issues and property rights.
Crouch on Monday confirmed he would not seek reelection in November. Nick Libous and Joe Angelino have announced they are running for the Republican nomination in the district which includes parts of Broome, Chenango, Delaware and Otsego counties.
