An out-of-control vehicle veered across East Main Street in Endwell, slamming into a utility pole and rolling onto its side.

The crash occurred around 5:20 a.m. Friday just west of Brookside Avenue.

Authorities say a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta was westbound on East Main Street when it crossed into the opposite lane and crashed into the pole.

The car rolled onto its passenger side. The 18-year-old Binghamton man who had been driving had managed to get out of the vehicle by the time a state trooper arrived at the scene.

The driver was evaluated by medics with the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad. He apparently was unhurt.

The crash occurred in front of a Burger King restaurant and directly across the street from a McDonald's unit. Both businesses were closed at the time.

A section of East Main Street was closed until the wrecked car was towed away and a NYSEG crew was able to deal with the damaged pole. No wires fell as a result of the crash.

According to state police, the driver received tickets for violations. His name was not released.

Broome County sheriff's deputies and Endwell firefighters assisted at the crash scene.
