Car Hits Garage After Eight-Minute High-Speed Tour of Endicott

An Endicott man faces felony counts after he allegedly lead police on a wild chase through the streets of the village's North Side.

Authorities say the U.S. Marshals Service regional task force was trying to take James Hanks Jr. into custody Monday afternoon.

A marked Broome County sheriff's office unit tried to pull over a car driven by Hanks on Monroe Street in Endicott around 1:50 p.m.

According to a news release, Hanks did not stop. Instead, he allegedly tried to get away by taking a circuitous route through some North Side neighborhoods.

The pursuit ended after about eight minutes when the 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV smashed into the corner of a garage on Madison Avenue.

Investigators say Hanks then was chased on foot. A sheriff's office sergeant utilized a Tazer device to take the man into custody on Monroe Street.

Hanks was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and a probation violation. He also faces counts of resisting arrest and unlawfully fleeing a police officer.
