“Burger Mondays” Sells Off Equipment, Vacates Historic Building
A downtown Binghamton spot that's been home to a series of popular restaurants for nearly two decades is now empty.
Burger Mondays Bar & Grille closed its doors in early February after operating at 23 Henry Street for 14 years.
The restaurant owners - Matt and Suzie Jones of the town of Binghamton - never explained why Burger Mondays closed. In a brief message posted online, they announced the move with what they described as "bittersweet excitement."
According to the note, the owners were planning to "move on to our next adventure." They wrote they "won’t be going far and will continue to be a delicious part of downtown Binghamton’s restaurant scene.
A few days after Burger Mondays was shut down, the owners announced they were selling surplus equipment, including fryers, tables and chairs.
The restaurant operated on the first floor of the historic Binghamton Republican building at the corner of Henry and State streets. The top four floors of the structure, which have been used for student housing in recent years, are now being renovated.
Burger Mondays opened in February 2011. Two other restaurants - Zazou and D.C. Dunster's - previously operated at the site. Before that, the place was the long-time home of Berger's Ski Shop.
A family-owned group from the Syracuse area acquired the property for $2.2 million in 2021. The owners have not announced future plans for the ground floor.
