Can the Buffalo Bills Win the AFC, or Will The Season Fizzle Out Like So Many Other Years?

We are a long way from the National Football League glory years of the 1990s for the Buffalo Bills.
Back then, the Jim Kelly led Bills appeared in four consecutive Super Bowls, but each one ended in a loss. Unlike the other three teams in the AFC East, Buffalo is the only one without a Super Bowl title on their mantel. However, unlike those other AFC East teams, Buffalo actually has a couple of playoff wins in the last five years. The last AFC East team to win a playoff game other than the Bills? The New England Patriots in 2019.
Going into Week 12 of the 2024 season, Buffalo is still pushing to make the playoffs, but would seem more like a Wild Card team this season. But fans, and bettors, do not want to hear all that: they want to know if the Bills can enter the field, they can be a dangerous team if they are overlooked.
Right now, most sports books in New York have the Bills (+2800) as the ninth choice in the NFL, despite their 6-5 record. Buffalo is behind the AFC South leading Jacksonville (+2000), AFC East leading Miami (+900), AFC North leading Baltimore (+850) and AFC West leading Kansas City (+450) in the AFC betting odds race, according to NY.Bet.
But can they go all the way?
Buffalo already has losses to Jets, Jags, Bengals and Broncos, but the Bills have a key win over the Dolphins, which could help them in the AFC East race. Sports books are not giving Buffalo a lot of love for that win over Miami, but the teams play in the final week of the season, which could change a lot of things in the AFC betting market.
The good news for the Bills is that they can control their own destiny, but they do have a tough stretch with Philadelphia, KC and Dallas the next three weeks. If they can navigate their way through that, they could be in play to be the top team in the AFC East.
When you look at the AFC Playoff Picture, the Bills are currently on the outside looking in, but in a very competitive AFC field, they have a shot to make it and if they do, they could be dangerous.
There are worse bets on the board, though, than taking a shot with Buffalo to make a run to the Super Bowl. In fact, at +2800 there might not be a better value bet out there than placing a few bucks on the Bills to go all the way and win their first title.
