The union representing 80 BC Transit employees is mounting a battle against any possible effort to turn Broome County bus operations over to a private firm.

Leaders of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1145 say they're opposed to privatizing the county-run service.

The union held a meeting in Binghamton to outline concerns about Broome County Executive Debra Preston's move to consider big changes for the bus operations.

Preston is considering options for BC Transit because of rising costs of providing the service.

Union representatives are encouraging their supporters to contact county lawmakers to express their opinions about the possible privatization of the bus operations.

The union leaders say that want to stop any move by the county to get out of the business quickly, before a plan could gain any traction.
