Broome Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit Puts New Airboat Into Service
A new piece of equipment has been added to the fleet operated by the marine unit of the Broome County Sheriff's Office.
The airboat was put into service recently. The boat, which is equipped with a large V-8 engine, was acquired in November.
Sergeant Dennis Rowlands oversees the marine unit, which include seven deputies.
The new airboat has additional capabilities compared to the airboat that has been utilized by the sheriff's office. It's been deployed for four details since it went into service.
The marine unit sometimes is used to help rescue people during floods. It most frequently is utilized for search and recovery operations.
The unit last month was patrolling the Susquehanna River when deputies discovered the body of a Binghamton man on an island in the town of Union. The man had been reported missing in March.
