Broome Reports Small Drop in COVID Infections/ Additional Death
Broome County reports 80 people in the hospital as of the end of the day October 18, down a dozen from the number reported in the hospital on Friday, October 15.
County Executive Jason Garnar Friday said a growing number of COVID hospitalizations in the county was very concerning.
The Democrat says the county managed to gain a handle on the pandemic a year ago and residents should again resume those actions that helped curb the number of infections, like avoiding crowds, wearing masks while indoors, frequent hand-washing and physically distancing from others when possible.
Broome’s active case count also dropped in the Monday update by 14 but one more resident has died, bringing the county’s death toll to 390. Another death was also reported in Cortland County. That County has lost 79 residents. Cortland County has 5 residents in the hospital, 65 new cases and 171 active COVID cases.
Chenango County reports only one person in the hospital but here are 144 active cases and 79 new cases reported since Friday, October 15. Delaware county added 33 new positives while there are 133 active cases. The death toll remains at 60 as one more resident had reportedly died of the virus in the Friday report.
Tioga County had 13 new cases after crossing the mark of5,000 cases late last week. Tioga now records 5,025 cases since the start of the pandemic and 71 residents have died.
