During a briefing August 12, County Executive Jason Garnar said, where most new cases during the start of the outbreak were in places like nursing homes, the cases showing up in the past seven days are among people who live in the same household or who all work in the same place.  The Executive says the new cases are also trending to younger residents instead of seniors. Older residents still account for the majority of deaths.

Garnar says they are continuing to follow up on complaints about non-compliance being made to the New York State website and have made 200 calls to local businesses to discuss issues concerning physical distancing, mask-wearing and occupancy while close to 60 problem locations have warranted an actual visit by inspectors.

To date, Broome County has recorded 1,087 cases of the coronavirus, one more than reported August 11. Chenango County added two cases to 218 total and seven deaths, Cortland County is unchanged at 91 and one death, Delaware unchanged from the August 11 report at 97 cases reported on August 12 and one death and Tioga County unchanged at 202 cases and 25 deaths.

New York reported seven additional deaths August 12 for a total of 25,218 and 700 new cases for a total of 422,703.
