Broome Man Accused of Strangling Woman Released
A judge released a man on his own recognizance after the suspect allegedly hit a woman several times and strangled her in the town of Maine.
Authorities say 24-year-old Anthony Pickens of Maine was arrested following a domestic dispute Saturday morning.
Investigators say the incident occurred in a residence on Mulberry Circle.
According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, Pickens repeatedly hit the woman, "strangled her and threatened to slit her throat with a piece of glass."
Pickens was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing, third-degree assault and second-degree menacing.
Pickens appeared before a magistrate at the Central Arraignment Facility in the town of Dickinson. He was released after his arraignment.
A sheriff's office news release did not provide information on the nature of the woman's injuries or whether she was taken to a hospital for treatment.
