Broome Jail Inmate Guilty of Trying to Hire Hitman

A Broome County jury finds a county jail inmate guilty on felony conspiracy charges in a murder-for-hire plot.

The Broome County Court calendar for July 23 still has another day for the trial of a Broome County jail inmate accused of trying to hire a hitman on the docket, but FOX 40, WICZ reports the trial of Harold Cole is over.

According to the report, the Broome County jury took just 20 minutes after getting the case to find the man, who has been associated with white supremist groups, guilty on felony conspiracy charges.

Sentencing is set for September where Cole could get up to 25 years for each conspiracy count.

The 48-year-old was being held in the Broome County Jail on accusations that he kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and her friend a year ago and then violated orders of protection.

Prosecutors say, while incarcerated, Cole talked to other inmates and was put into contact with who turned out to be an investigator posing as a hit man, offering money for kidnapping and possibly murdering people involved in his case and vowing his devotion to a white supremist group.
