The Board of Elections is counting the absentee and paper ballots from the tight Republican Primary for Broome County District Attorney between Paul Battisti and Michael Korchak.

Primary night results had the candidates separated by less than 150 vote and the count was not certified pending the counting of the paper ballots.  Following the vote June 25, Battisti had 4,564 votes to Korchak’s 4,427.

The winner faces Democrat Debra Gelson on November 5.

The new District Attorney will replace Republican Steve Cornwell, who announced he was not going to seek another term.  Last week he officially launched his campaign for the U.S. Congressional seat currently held by Democrat Anthony Brindisi.
