Broome County’s number of positive cases for the coronavirus took another jump on October 5 with 66 new cases.

The previous day had 29 new positive results.  Broome County’s deaths attributed to COVID-19 remains at 82.  The total number of cases reported on October 6 was 1,929. 

Tioga County is also keeping tabs on an increase in cases and reports another resident has died as a result of COVID-19, bringing Tioga’s death toll to 27.  There were five new cases announced October 6 for a total of 302.  64 of those cases are currently active.   

County officials are urging residents to remain vigilant in efforts to control the pandemic by keeping their distance, wearing masks and washing hands frequently.

Chenango County reported one new cases for a total of 262 and the death toll remains at seven.  Cortland County reported 19 new cases to 332 and the death toll remaining at just one.  Delaware County was unchanged at 128 cases and 8 deaths. 

Parts of the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania are also seeing increasing numbers over the past week with Bradford County adding 102 new cases since September 28 and two more deaths.  Susquehanna County had 17 new cases for the week and the death toll remained at 28 while Wayne County reported 23 new cases for the week and one additional death.

Pennsylvania has a total of 165,243 cases since the start of the pandemic. That’s an increase of 8,417 for the week with a large number of increases in the urban areas. Pennsylvania’s death toll increased by 134 for the week to 8,244.
