Broome COVID Cases Continue Rise but Active Cases Back Off

Broome County’s active cases of COVID-19 are backing off a little from a recent surge as new restrictions began October 9 on gatherings and in-person learning in an effort to control the spread.  

Broome reported 44 new cases during the October 12 briefing, considerably less than a 114-case one-day increase that was reported on October 7. 

Broome County’s total cases now number 2,386 with 83 deaths.  616 of the cases were said to be active during the October 12 update, down eight from the previous day. 

Cortland County had 27 new cases for a total of 464 while Delaware noted three more cases for a total of 135 with the death toll remaining at eight. 

Some counties had no update October 12, presumably due to the federal holiday. There were no updates posted for Chenango or Tioga Counties. 

New York State said there were 1,000 new cases, 81 of those positive results in the red-zone COVID outbreak areas downstate.  There were twelve more New Yorkers who lost their lives to COVID-19.  New York has lost 25,587 residents due to the pandemic.

Pennsylvania is also continuing to report a surge in coronavirus infections with the Northern Tier noting a spike in cases over the past week. 

Bradford County had 101 new cases from October 6 for a total of 359 and one more death for a total of six. Susquehanna County had 35 new cases for the week for a total of 345 with deaths unchanged at 28 and Wayne County added 8 cases for 265 and one more fatality for the week putting the death toll at 12. 

Statewide, Pennsylvania has had 173,304 cases and 8,368 deaths.
