The Broome County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division’s Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) recently released its latest statistics and activity for November.

Since its expansion in 2023, the CIU has grown from a single investigator to an eleven-member team, including full-time investigators, a K9 unit, and part-time investigators. This growth has enabled them to tackle criminal activities within the facility effectively.

In November 2024, the CIU was involved in 9 cases, 7 of which resulted in arrests. The cases ranged from felonies to misdemeanors, reflecting the unit’s capability in handling various criminal offenses. Charges included promoting prison contraband, drug possession, criminal mischief, harassment, assault, and conspiracy.

The K9 unit, led by K9 Marley, played a crucial role in maintaining security by assisting in contraband sweeps during visits and in designated areas within the facility. Their work has contributed to the prevention of illicit activities and the overall safety of the correctional facility.
