Broome Sheriff’s officials say they are now looking for the driver of a black Honda CRV in connection with the disappearance of a missing Whitney Point man.

A person believed to be Matthew Phillips was seen getting out of the vehicle at the Mighty Mart at Route 26 and Ames Road in the Town of Maine hours after he left his home on a bicycle.

Phillips was reported missing after leaving his home on Pendell Hill Road at around 6 Saturday morning on a small, BMX-style bicycle. That bicycle was found along Route 26 near Swan Hill Road.

Broome Sheriff’s officials October 26 said they wanted to talk to the driver of the compact sport utility vehicle seen at the convenience store at 9:30 a.m. October 24.

Phillips is described as white, standing five-feet, 9-inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds.  He suffers from schizophrenia.

A false report earlier October 26 indicted Phillips may have been located but authorities retracted that report a short time later.
