Broome County Prepares for the 2020 Census
Broome County is gearing up for the once-a-decade head count by setting up a special committee.
The Broome County Planning and Economic Development Department is announcing the launch of its Complete Count Committee in preparation for the 2020 census.
Every person in the United States is theoretically counted every ten years. The results of the count are used to work out seats in Congress as well as how federal money is divvied up in funding appropriations and grants for things like road and infrastructure projects, education programs, hospitals and emergency services.
Broome County’s Count Committee is looking to increase the rate for households responding online, by phone or by mailing back the census questionnaires.
