Broome County's Front Street Dog Shelter is expanding its operating hours.  The shelter will now be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The new Saturday hours start January 6.

While the shelter is closed Sundays and Mondays, staff is always on site to care for the dogs and respond to emergencies.

Officials say the new hours have been put into place to better accommodate people in their search for the perfect companion dog.

The Broome County Dog Shelter, on Cutler Pond Road in the Town of Dickinson at the south entrance for SUNY Broome Community College, is supported through contract with ten towns to house stray adoptable dogs and puppies, redemption fees, adoption fees and donations.
