Broome Community College may soon has a new name.

The special meeting of the college Board of Trustees has been scheduled for Thursday morning to consider a name change.

BCC spokesman Richard David says the board will consider approving a name-change resolution.

The college could become known as SUNY Broome or SUNY Broome Community College.

David told WNBF News that there's been a recent trend among New York community colleges incorporating the "SUNY" name as part of their identity.

The special trustees meeting is to be held Thursday at 7:30 a.m. in the Decker Building at the Broome Community College campus in the town of Dickinson.
