Broome Added to Flash Flood Watch List
Broome and Chenango Counties join Delaware County in New York and Susquehanna and Wayne Counties in Pennsylvania on the watch list for possible flash flooding from Tropical Storm Isaias.
The National Weather Service in Binghamton at 3:43 a.m. added the two Southern Tier Counties to a Flash Flood Watch to be in place from 6 a.m. August 4 to 6 a.m. August 5.
Officials say locally heavy rainfall from showers and embedded thunderstorms associated with the tropical storm making its way up the east coast could potentially dump rain at hourly rates of an inch per hour or better at times.
NOAA says the heavy rainfall rates have the potential to cause localize flash flooding in poor drainage, low lying and urban areas as well as some of the smaller creeks and streams.

While the locally heavy rain is projected for the afternoon and early evening August 4, authorities say flooding impacts could linger into the night.
A Flash Flood Watch means there is the potential for flash flooding due to developing conditions. Residents should be aware of the possibility of flooding and be prepared to take action.
Motorists should also be aware that road conditions could change quickly and be ready to follow all detours that may be put in place due to water on roadways. Never drive around barricades or through water over roadways since it is difficult to determine how deep the water is, especially at night.
