Binghamton University Sued Over November Protests
Binghamton University is being sued by a conservative Christian organization over protests that shut down a guest lecture by economist and Trump supporter Art Laffer last year.
Laffer was to give a talk on campus November 18 at an event for the Young America’s Foundation and College Republicans but was shouted down by protesters who had showed up at the event.
Prior to that, there had been a confrontation on campus involving the Republican group tabling to publicize the upcoming talk and students who had objected to some alleged pro-gun messaging following a recent mass shooting.
The suit claims the University allowed access to Laffer’s talk by the protesters, failed to remove them and suppressed the conservative group’s free speech.
The University told several media outlets that it responded to the events consistent with its mission and the requirements of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.
