Experts Inspecting West Endicott Carousel For Needed Repairs
Carousel specialists from Connecticut are in Broome County to assess what work will be necessary for a merry-go-round in a town of Union neighborhood park.
WRF Designs has been hired to assess the carousel that was erected in the park in 1929.
The town board last month approved spending up to $24,000 to analyze the carousel's mechanisms and gears on-site.
Town of Union supervisor Robert Mack told WNBF News that WRF Designs did a restoration project for the town's other carousel, which is located in Highland Park in Endwell.
In a recent interview, Mack said the mechanics of the West Endicott merry-go-round "are in rough shape." He said a preliminary inspection indicated work would be needed on the electrical system.
The restoration firm has suggested needed repairs likely could be completed to allow the carousel to operate sometime this summer.
