Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger  BOB JOSEPH/WNBF NEWS [FILE][/caption]The number of freshman applications for the upcoming fall semester at Binghamton University has set a record.

School officials say Binghamton has received 30,168 freshman applications. The previous record was 29,450 in 2013.

In a statement released by the university, President Harvey Stenger indicated he's pleased "more and more people are becoming aware of the world-class educational experience" offered by Binghamton.

According to information released by the school, 25.4 percent of the freshman applications for the fall semester are from black and Hispanic students.

University officials say the number of international applications is continuing to increase. The school received 2,098 international applications for the fall semester.

Binghamton University has set a goal of reaching a total enrollment of 20,000 students by 2020. Current enrollment is more than 16,000 students.
