Downtown Binghamton Train Station Restaurant Opening Delayed
A restaurant that's planned for the Lackawanna Train Station in Binghamton won't be operating as soon as originally planned.
Developer Mark Yonaty is preparing to open Station 45 American Chop House in the historic downtown building on Lewis Street.
Yonaty has been working on preparations for the establishment for more than two years. Earlier this year, he was hoping the restaurant could be operational by late summer or early fall.
Some delays have prompted him to adjust the timetable for opening. Yonaty said on Wednesday that he now expects construction activity at the site to be completed in four to six weeks.
At this point, Yonaty said he believes the restaurant will be able to open early next year. He said "we want to take our time to make sure things are done right."
Yonaty said he's received inquiries from people interested in working at Station 45. He said he anticipates hiring more than 30 people before the business opens.
Yonaty acquired the old train station near the city-owned baseball stadium a decade ago.
Yonaty said the ticketing booth and waiting room area were restored to their "original condition." Renovation work inside and outside the building has been underway for several months. A patio has been constructed for outdoor seating.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the ticketing booth and waiting area of the railroad station had been gutted.
