Broome County will be the site of one of 15 "listening sessions" to be held across New York State to seek input on proposals to legalize recreational marijuana.

The local Regulated Marijuana Workgroup session will be October 2.  The venue has yet to be officially announced.

The first session is scheduled for September 6 in Albany with other meetings scheduled for Glens Falls, Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Long Island, Newburgh, Binghamton, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Utica and Watertown.

Residents are asked to register online at www.ny.gov/programs/assessing-regulated-marijuana-new-york.

The Regulated Marijuana Workgroup has been tasked by Governor Andrew Cuomo to solicit comments about legalizing non-medical uses for pot and to use the information as more firm proposals are drawn up for legislation.

The New York State Legislature is expected to take up the issue in the new session next year.
