The abandoned building on Murray Street near Gerard Avenue that burned November 19th is being demolished.

Binghamton firefighters were called to 164 Murray Street at 6:55 a.m. November 19th by a passerby who saw flames in the structure.  Crews arriving on the scene found the conditions inside the building unstable and mounted their attack on the fire from outside.  The blaze was out within an hour and there were no injuries.

Officials have not said how the fire started but have quickly moved to have the structure torn down.

November 30, a building at 23 Frederick Street was demolished as part of the City’s on-going effort to remove blighted properties.

The latest round of scheduled demolitions include two properties on Stuyvesant Street, and buildings on Delmar, Medford and Hotchkiss Streets.

Those projects are being done by LCP Group at a cost of $114,250 being paid by the City’s General Fund.

After the buildings come down, the vacant lots will be sold to neighbors or remain permanent green space.
