Binghamton Street’s Potholes Finally Filled

City public works crews have patched about two dozen potholes on a Binghamton street that had been neglected for months.

Ely Park Boulevard is used by hundreds of residents who live in the massive Legacy Bay Townhomes community.

The potholes were filled months after complaints were first made about the rough condition of the street in the northwest corner of the city.

Last spring, a man who lives in a Legacy Bay unit called WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program to ask Mayor Richard David about the situation. He said the entryway to the complex was "atrocious" and the street was "sort of a Ho Chi Minh Trail with bomb craters here and there."

The resident contacted the program again this week during the mayor's regular appearance. In an email, he said the street still had potholes and broken pavement that needed to be repaired.

First District city councilman Giovanni Scaringi was interviewed on the radio program Thursday. He said he inspected the condition of Ely Park Boulevard after hearing the resident's renewed complaint.

Scaringi said he made "23 official submissions" to the public works department requesting attention.

On Thursday afternoon, workers were observed filling the final potholes at the end of the 1.1-mile street.
