A man and a woman have been arrested after they allegedly used replica currency to purchase a phone from a town of Chenango resident.

Authorities say 40-year-old David Coffey and 23-year-old Abigail Klink, both of Binghamton, have been charged with possession of a forged instrument, a felony. They also face counts of conspiracy and petit larceny.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the suspects were taken into custody Wednesday.

Investigators say the two are accused of buying an iPhone that had been advertised on Facebook. They allegedly used two $100 bills in the transaction.

The person who sold the device filed a complaint after noticing the word "replica" appeared on each of the bills.
