Binghamton Puts Police Reform Survey Online
The City of Binghamton has a community survey online to gather input on the proposed reform and reinvention of the Police Department.
The surveymonkey questionnaire will be available to March 1.
Binghamton and other communities have been holding a series of public meetings via zoom and other platforms during the pandemic.
Following increased outrage last summer over the deaths of Black people at the hands of police and a rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, Governor Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order directing police agencies to make plans for reform to address community concerns and promote diversity in the ranks. The Governor has given police departments until April 1 to finalize reform plans or risk losing government funding.
Binghamton’s plans can be found at http://binghamton-ny.gov/2021-binghamton-police-reform-reinvention-collaborative.
The Binghamton survey is at www.surveymonkey.com/r/RK9MHFW.
