Binghamton Protest Focuses on Trump Agenda

Dozens of people gathered at the Binghamton Federal Building to express concern about President Donald Trump's environmental agenda.

The demonstration Thursday afternoon was one of several coordinated events held around New York state.

Representatives of several groups, including Citizen Action and the Sierra Club, participated in the rallies.

Organizers said they wanted to call on Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer to take a strong stance against the president's "climate-destroying plans."

Mary Clark of Citizen Action brought petitions protesting the choice of Scott Pruitt to head the Environmental Protection Agency. Clark turned over the petition signatures to Amanda Spellicy, Schumer's regional representative.

Many of those who attended the Binghamton demonstration are residents of Broome and Tioga counties.

Some of the people at the event held signs criticizing the new administration's environmental policies.

Federal security officers and Binghamton police monitored the demonstration as the crowd listened to a series of speakers. No problems were reported.
