A landmark office building in downtown Binghamton remains idle more than two years since a raging blaze in a neighboring property resulted in water and smoke damage.

The Professional Towers at 19 Chenango Street had undergone a major renovation shortly before the December 2010 fire ripped through the Midtown Mall complex.

Mark Yonaty of Greater Binghamton Development LLC told WNBF News efforts have been underway to lease or sell what had been the Press Building.

The building, which was built in 1904, has been completely gutted since the fire.

Prior to the blaze, four floors were occupied by a law firm. Other tenants filled other floors of the historic structure.

Yonaty said marketing efforts began several months ago but he notes the region's economic conditions have made it challenging to get the building back into use.
