Journalist C.J. Chivers has seen a lot of the world since he grew up in Binghamton.

In recent years, he's spent much of his time reporting outside the United States as an international correspondent for The New York Times.

The newest book by Chivers - The Fighters: Americans in Combat in Afghanistan and Iraq - has just been published by Simon & Schuster.

Chris Chivers was born and raised on Binghamton's West Side. He later spent nearly seven years as an infantry officer with the United States Marine Corps.

Chivers spent a few years working as a newspaper reporter in Rhode Island before joining The New York Times in 1999.

C.J. Chivers will be at the Vestal Barnes & Noble store Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a reading and a book signing event. The store is in the Town Square Mall at 2443 Vestal Parkway East.
