Binghamton Mayor Gets Raise, Residents Get Tax Cut
Binghamton Mayor Richard David is looking at a raise in pay
.
During a budget work session this week, City Council voted 4-2 to give the Mayor a 2.5% pay raise, bringing the salary to $74,333, an increase of $35 a week. The pay raise was not included in the mayor’s proposed budget.
Republican councilmembers, Chris Papastrat, John Matzo and Thomas Sanlon were joined by Democrat Dani Crounce in voting for the pay raise. Democrat Conrad Taylor and Dan Livingston voted “no” and First Ward Councilman Giovanni Scaringi was not present for the vote as he is deployed on military assignment.
The money is to come from the City’s contingency fund.
Councilmembers make $10,099 and are due to get a 1.6% cost of living raise next year.
Under the revisions to the overall budget, residential property taxes are due to go down close to 3.3%.
