Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Authorities say James A. Brown of Binghamton was charged with first-degree criminal contempt, a felony.

Police were called to a North Broad Street residence around 2 a.m. Friday. A woman told officers Brown had spent the night at her apartment and would not leave.

Investigators say an order of protection issued by village court had directed Brown to stay away from the residence.

Police say the charge was a felony because Brown had been convicted of criminal contempt within the past five years.

Brown was arraigned in village court and remanded to Broome County Jail.
